Even Though I’ve Been Naughty…
Once again, I was struck speechless for the latter half of an entire day. I received a package in the mail yesterday from my “SECRET SATAN” (as labeled on the package). Inside this gift-wrapped Fed Ex box was a complete typeset, laid out, edition of In Delirium II, edited by John Everson. Not only did this book shock me, the names that were incorporated it in blew me away. John Everson put together this anthology as a Christmas present for me. A rather grandiose present in which several authors and artist contribute their work freely as a gift to me.
I’m simply blown away once again with this priceless gift and wanted to share this with everyone. Here is the contributor list:
- Introduction by John Everson
- “Surgery” by Tananarive Due
- “The Garbage Man” by Brett McBean
- “The Dancing Doll” by Melanie Tem
- “Still Life With Walls” by Martin Mundt
- “The Night Three Dead Rock and Rollers Saved the World From Hunter S. Thompson” by Patrick Lestewka
- “High Rise” by Robert Dunbar
- “TV Eye” by John Pelan
- “Chopper’s Hands” by Gord Rollo
- “Quincunx” by Michael T. Huyck, Jr.
- “Black Iron” by Rick Hautala
- “Drunk with Lust, Sick From the Taste” by Bryan Eytcheson
- “Garbage” by Steve Rasnic Tem
- “Tricks of Light” by Sandy DeLuca
- “Concrete Gods” by Kealan Patrick Burke & Harry Shannon
- “I Am Yesterday and I Am Today” by Brett Alexander Savory & David Niall Wilson
- “Forever” by Tim Lebbon
- “The Stars Shine Without Me” by Matt Cardin
- “Joy” by Wrath James White
- “Crazy For You” by Brian Keene & Michael Oliveri
Plus, the amazing cover artwork (on the right) by Mike Bohatch and a kick-ass foil stamp design by Greg Posey were included, not to mention a new, ravamped Delirium Books bibliography and History of Firsts compiled by Brian Keene, H Michael Casper and Matt Schwartz.
Wow!
I’d like to personally thank each and every one who took part in this cherished gift. I’d like to thank John Everson for not only editing this project, but also laying the book out and handing it over basically only needing a final copy edit, which ultimately means that the book should be up for preorder in the near future, as early as next month.
It’s tough to put feelings into words when dealing with this special of a gift. Each author contributed a story that took a great deal of time to write and to give these stories to me and allow me to publish them without any type of compensation…as a thank you for me doing what I do…it’s just mind-biggling…and for Mike Bohatch to work on the cover and Greg Posey to work on the foil design as a gift…for Schwartz, Casper and Keene to work on the special bibliography…and for Everson to put this all together which is a huge undertaking in itself…I appreciate this gift and thank you guys and gals so much for it!
A simple “thank you” doesn’t seem to cover it, but you guys have made my Christmas!

The first time I logged on here (just a few days ago), you spoke of not sleeping for days because of all the work you are doing. It appears that many others have noticed you labor of love at Delirium Books. Congratulations on your well earned gift. This looks like a fabulous book, that we all will be greatly anticipating.
Comment by monkeycat on 19 December 2006:

Shane, what an extraordinary gift. You must be awfully pretty to be getting such a lovely present, either that or you must be quite extraordinary yourself.
Thanks for all you do for the horror community, Shane!
Happy Holidays to You and Yours!
Hugs,
Fran

Comment by Jack Staynes on 23 December 2006:
What? as in…”He sure do got a puuuurty mouth”? I wonder how much praying I’d have to do to get a book like that?
Comment by RobDunbar on 27 December 2006:
It never fails to amaze me how quickly these discussions always get around to Deliverance …
(Fortunately, none of us are the sort to read any significance into that.)
“In Delirium II” is very exciting. I’m thrilled to have my work appear in a lineup like this. Who wouldn’t be?
Comment by griglak on 1 January 2007:
That’s a great gift Shane.
Is this going to be available through the hardcover subscription?
Comment by Shane Staley on 2 January 2007:
Thanks!
The book won’t be available through the hardcover subscription, but if you bought the first volume through Delirium, you’ll get a chance to get a matching number of volume 2.
Comment by Dale L. Murphy on 5 January 2007:
I will have to find my copy so I can see about getting matching numbers. Shane is this going to be a regular series?
Comment by kresby on 5 January 2007:
silly question!
Comment by Dale L. Murphy on 6 January 2007:
Yeah but I have asked sillier ones than this
Comment by Shane Staley on 6 January 2007:
Never a silly question. As far as I know, the first In Delirium was it. I was surprised to be presented with the second one.
Comment by kresby on 6 January 2007:
That’s what I meant. It’s not under Shane’s control until he get’s that gift of love.
