Custom Collector Editions
On Tuesday, March 27th, Delirium Books will be releasing the most eagerly awaited/highly anticipated book to date as Brian Keene’s The Rising: Selected Scenes From The End Of The World will go up for preorder.
This first edition hardcover will be sold in two states:
- 500 copy signed and numbered limited edition hardcover
- 200 (tentative) copy signed and numbered custom collector edition hardcover
The latter is a new edition Delirium has created for high demand titles and will only be sold through Delirium Books direct due to the nature of the edition (the customizations offered to the buyer).
The bonuses the new edition will feature are:
- Customizable options including marbled endsheets, bound-in ribbon marker, and slipcase.
- Additional one-of-a-kind signature sheet signed by publisher stating the book was bound specifically for the customer
- Bonus short story not found in limited edition.
- Publisher’s variant page included in the back of the book, stating how many copies were produced with the given options, giving collectors a unique perspective on the uniqueness of their special, customized books.
The book will be sold for a base price of $75, but buyers may customize their books by adding additional features to their book at an additional cost. These features for this first custom collector edition will be:
- Marbled End Sheets
- Bound-in Ribbon Marker
- Matching Slipcase
- Additional frontispiece (book will automatically come with DJ)
The additional signature sheet comes standard with every edition. This sheet will be signed by the Delirium Editor-in-Chief and state in type that the the book was bound specifically for the customer who ordered the book. It will also be dated as to when the book was put into production at the bindery. Delirium will automatically take the buyer’s name on the order to incorporate into this typeset one-of-a-kind signature sheet. This will help to keep these editions off the secondary market at extremely inflated prices.
Another unique aspect of this custom collector edition is the publisher’s variant page which will be included in the back of the edition. This will be a publication list of the different combinations of options that were produced. So out of the print run, ‘X’ amount was bound with ‘X’ set of options. This will break down the many unique combinations of how these books were produced, making each book more limited/rare than the actual print run.
The CCE will be bound in a higher quality material than the standard limited edition. If the buyer selects the option to include the slipcase, the slipcase will come in a matching material.
These new editions are expected to sell out within hours of being posted. An announcement with specific links will be made here on the Insider. The CCE may not appear in Delirium’s catalog, so if you’re interested in this special edition, please make sure of the following:
- You’ve registered and are logged in to the Insider.
- You have registered for the new shopping cart/catalog at: http://www.deliriumbooks.com/catalog/home.php (remember: the catalog has a different registration process, so you need to register/log in separately between the Insider and Catalog).
- Make sure you know what options (if any) you want before ordering. Once an order is placed, it’s final and revisions to the order won’t be allowed.
Important Note: Due to the customization of this book, customers will be charged when placing their order. Each book will be different with customized signature sheets, so all orders will be final on receipt by Delirium Books. Also, this special edition will not be covered under any subscription (the limited edition will be covered under the HC subscription), including lifetime subscriptions. No discounts or coupons will be valid for buying this edition.
Important Note to Hardcover Subscribers: Anyone who has a hardcover subscription can upgrade to this edition without it effecting their subscription. If you wish to purchase the CCE instead of the limited, you must place a note in the special instructions section of the shopping cart when ordering with the following note: ‘HARDCOVER SUBSCRIBER: UPGRADE’. If you do this, your limited will be cancelled and you will receive the matching number of your subscription in the custom collector edition instead. Your hardcover subscription will continue with the next title covered under the subscription, as usual. If you wish to receive both the CCE and your regular limited edition, you should place nothing in the special instructions section when ordering the CCE. If nothing appears in the special instructions section of the shopping cart, BOTH editions will automatically be charged and shipped to you (the CCE will be charged up front and the limited will be charged at the time of shipment).
Due to the immense demand for The Rising: Selected Scenes From The End Of The World, it’s not going to be possible for me to send out individual e-mails to everyone who is interested. Also, please do not e-mail me and request a reservation of this title in advance, as there will be no pre-reservations before it goes live on Tuesday, except for those who have purchased a hardcover subscription or are current buyers of all Delirium lettereds.
Buyers of lettered editions should note that the CCE will not replace the normal Delirium lettereds. For future books that contain a custom collector edition, the title will be sold in three states: 1) limited edition, 2) CCE and 3) lettered. There will be 2 items of bonus material appearing in these titles: one which will appear in the CCE and both which will appear in the lettered edition. The lettered editions will be designed to have marbled end sheets, bound-in ribbon markers and possibly double slipcase or traycase. Plus, the lettereds will be bound in soft genuine leather while the CCEs will be bound in non-leather, yet a more expensive material above the material used on the standard limited editions.
Buyers should note that the lettered of The Rising: Selected Scenes From The End Of The World was already announced, sold and shipped in 2006. So there will be no such lettered edition offered at this time.
